MPEG 1 at 640×480 Problems
I’m having trouble getting decent results when encoding a video clip to mpeg 1 at at frame size of 640×480. The output has a kind of flicker, and I’m thinking this due to an interlacing problem. I know that at 320×240, you should discard the non-dominant field, but this is the first time I am trying 640×480, and I’m not sure about the de-interlace settings. I’m starting with a Quicktime source that was exported from an Avid at 720×486. Using Procoder 2, I’m setting the target for 2 pass vbr (max bitrate 8mbps/avg bitrate 4mbps). I’ve tried both adaptive de-interlace, and interpolate from dominant field (default threshhold), but the results are not great. I’ve read in other posts that excellent quality mpeg 1 at this frame size is possible, but I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?
