Compressor, noise in solid black area
Hi there!
I’ve been shooting some footage of some rear projected art in a dark room. The composition changes very slowly over many minutes and there are no cuts.
I’ve got significant amounts of hard edge rectilinear black bordering my image. I have been shooting 30P on a DVX-100, and then bringing into Final Cut Exporting as a self contained quicktime using the DV codec, taking into compressor and exporting to mpeg2 using 2 pass VBR at the highest bit rate possible. I am also applying a slight gamma correction to try and ‘crush’ my blacks.
I am finding that in the mpeg2’s, my blacks have VERY NOTICEABLE artifacts.
Can someone suggest a workflow or filter regimen that will allow me to have real solid blacks?
Is there a primer somewhere online, or a book that offers compression wisdom?
thanks!
AJ
