After adding a Shatter effect to a comp AFX crashed. It gave me “ONE” opportunity to save the file with another name. Oddly enough, AFX overwrote the existing with the new name (?) not a “save as” and it will not open the saved/newly named file: Crash occurred while evoking plug-in “Shatter”. I tried to get rid of Shatter by changing the name in the program files but still the same error message. I even repaired/re-installed AFX. No, I did NOT increment and save this one as I normally do. Any ideas other than shoot myself?

did you have autosave on in preferences? and also there should be a weird looking aep file called temp43534.aep that was your old saved file even if autosave is off. It has saved me too.

Thanks Chris. Autosave is/was on. I will look in the temp file.

Also, you can remove the shatter plugin temporarily from your After Effects plugin directory and see if it will start….I have had issues with some plugins and this worked for me…

    Best of luck,
