  • Adding text to hair

Short version: I’d like to know how to affect hair color / properties via text. For example, say I want to make a cartoon duck with fuzzy down feathers, and I’d like him to have a letter or number or his name, etc. on his side. How could I then have a the down on his side be a different color in the shape of a letter?

Longer version: I know you can apply a texture to the root of the hair material, which will color the hairs in that pattern, and that works somewhat well, but I don’t know how to control where that texture is placed, and it also tiles the texture so that I end up with lots of numbers all over the duck instead of just one on its side (see image).

Bonus points: It’d be great if I could do this dynamically instead of having to use textures.

    Thanks,

    ~Jon

You can use the Effects>Projector shader to move/rotate/scale the texture, and also turn off tiling. It takes a bit of trial and error. Best to use the active region render with low settings while making adjustments.
