    You could do that easily with particles and metaballs or even in AE with a particle generator and some of the 3D liquid plugins AE comes with (does Mr. Mercury come with AE?)
    I find you only need to go to realflow if you want really really specific flow patterns or you dont want to see any evidence of lumps in the liquid, or if you need sheeting, which is impossible to do with metaballs.
