  • Boole polygon problem

Posted by Simon Ličman on March 24, 2017 at 6:50 pm

Hello , i have got 2 extruded text splines converted to polygons , one being half long the other and slightly moved forward the camera (so thats the fatter latter gets cutted into themselves less fat letters). The problem is that at the level of flat side of word at the level of fattest object my desired carved image seems disrupted and some polygons just randomly generate some connected planes and in holes where isnt this issue it is actually “booled” well , can someone help me please ?

attached screenshot 11182_screenshot2017032419.30.17.png.zip , hope its recognizable.

you may have to post that scene. Otherwise I see you have High Quality turned off in the current boole, you might want to check out the stages of building you final objects and see if high quality on/off makes any difference.
The other thought is to make sure whenever you make an extrude (or a boole with Create Single Object not checked) to make sure you do an Optimize on the object before you move to the next step so that it really is a single shelled object and not an object with a bunch of separate faces that just meet. Booles work best with enclosed volumes.

Well in boole option i have chosen (a without b) there seems to be automatically unchecked “create single object” and high quality or low does not make any difference, there is an project file: 11183_fznjbuj.c4d.zip , i attached either splines in cases someone took problem in their own hands

the spline xd (not used) and xd.1 (used) are both two splines in exactly the same place. If you zoom into xd.1 and select a single vertex and then move it you will see there is a second spline there. With that single point still selected do a Select Connected in the select menu and then delete that will get rid of the extra part – you will have to do it again since there are two parts to the xd.1 spline. once you have it cleaned up the boole should work.

i tried what i could but still do not seem to figure that out ☹ i tried deleting additional points and optimizing but it still boggles my mind.. if you would do it i would owe you a lot, but i guess forum tries to motivate people to fix their own problems.

well i somehow figured thing out, let me explain where i think may be problems and how i put thing together with sketchup (not professional approach but got it done).

Multiple points in same area : well i always tried to optimize and when it doesnt changed a thing i splitted that part of spline to other layer on i can get two good objects and not 1 faulty, this didn´t much worked.

Making extrude object editable gives separate depth of spline and caps, so even with connect like plugins i couldn´t get single fully connected object, that may confuse boole.

aand i got to the point where i could “boole” thinner text from caps of extrude of fat text, so that tunnel like parts i put together in sketchup by placing outline of thin text on face of extruded fat text, and did something exact like “extrude” in c4d, with a bit patience with manual cutting i put it together.

    Thanks for patience ????
