  • Move riggid body along motion path

    hello everybody,

I am trying to move a gearwheel (extrude nerb in side a null) along a motion path.
I animated the null object along a curved motion path and gave it a “align to path” tag.
    Until here everything works fine.

Now I use a rigid “body tag” on the null (Apply tag to children). Apparently the motion path creates some kind of a centrifugal force and the gear whee drifts away from the motion path while apparently the null still continues on the path.

How do I get the result of the gear wheal moving along the motion path, rotating correctly along its z-axis and when it arrives at the end of the motion path slowly drops down on the floor?

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks

as soon as you add a rigid body tag the dynamics takes over and it ignores animation or parent/child relationships. Follow Position and Follow Rotation (Force tab) are one way to get it to follow it’s normal place or follow the dynamics. Keep them at 100 until you want the cog to start being dynamic. Or if you want the cog to go ‘all at once’ rather than do Follow Position from 100 – 0 in one frame you you could just have Dynamic (Dynamics tab) set to Off then keyframe it to On when you want the cog to release.
