  • Hair problem during animation–“exploding” hair

I am having a problem where my hair with dynamics and colliders keeps “exploding” at certain points in the animation. In this animation, the figure is flying backward and hits the ground, and it is at about this point that the hair freaks out. I have fiddled with the segment count, the hair count, stiffness, etc., but it seems to keep happening. Can somebody suggest what might fix it, and/or what usually causes this?

    Thanks–Tim

Try increasing Rest Hold in the hair object’s Dynamics tab (and Rest Mix a bit maybe – remember that Elastic Limit and Deform will modify it too)

Thanks. Brian! That helped a little in some parts, but unfortunately seemed to make it worse in the most active part of the animation. In the meantime, another forum suggested increasing the number of steps in Dynamics > Advanced, and that seems to have pretty much fixed it. Reading up on it, I guess the idea is that it runs more calculations for more accuracy. Takes longer, but seems to to do it.
