  3D Particle Effect Ideas

  Hi everyone

  Been a while since I posted here. But now I need some help. Yeah I only show up when I want something…

  My client saw this:

  and liked the 3D block/city transition effect. Typically they want a Rolls Royce for the cost of a Hyundai, so I am looking at options to give them something close to that 3D transition without having to go out to a 3D app.

  Was playing with Particle Playground doing a Layer Exploder, but oh Lord is it slow and crappy. Even on an 8proc MacPro it sucks.

  Then I looked at Card Dance which was nice and quick and easy, but unless I’m mistaken it does not do motion blur which kinda sucks. Need motion blur.

  Got the demo of Form, it looks SWEEET, but it is another $200 I could do without spending, and then there is a learning curve. Can Form help do something similar, not EXACTLY like, this that might give my client the depth and production value they want.

  I have Particular, but I dont think that is the right tool for this, but correct me if I’m wrong.

  Any feedback or ideas would be great. Brainstorming eh.

  i haven’t looked at you sample yet, but if all you need card dance to have motion blur, try adding force motion blur to an adjustment layer above the card dance layer… the render may not be as quick, but it should give you good motion blur.

  well, i looked at your example…. you may be able to achieve something similar with the shatter effect. you can set it to a squares pattern, push the extrusion as far as you can, increase the repetitions (number of squares), set gravity to zero and i’m sure a few other things (lighting maybe)…. then it will be a matter animating the camera swing and the force to break up the image the way you want…

  also a note about cc force motion blur… if you didn’t want it to effect the layers below the card dance layer, you would need to precomp the card dance layer and apply cc force motion blur to the precomped layer… just an fyi that you probably would have figured out… i think the shatter may not support native motion blur either, so you may be using a similar force motion blur technique with it too.
