I created a animated banner in after effects, 800 x 160 @ 15 fps, with a duration of 15 seconds. It has a background layer, and 3 other layers, 2 of which utilize masks. I converted it to a flash movie file but it came in at almost 2.8 mg’s.

I am still learning flash and was going to try and recreate it in flash, but I know at least one of the layers I would have to use from AE because I used the puppet tool.

    My questions are:

Can you export just that layer (with transparency)to be used in flash 8 ?( I do not have flash CS3) If so, how should I do it?

What would you think should be the maximum file size to be web friendly on a flash project with the size and duration I noted above.

Thanks for any advice you can offer – Carl

This begs another question for me: is the layer you’re using the puppet tool on a shape layer? If not, that’s definitely going to increase file size due to the frame by frame bitmap being generated. But you can probably get a decent file size by converting to a smaller flv.

As far as export from ae, check ae help in program, but I would think the swf you generate can have alpha in it. Hope this helps!

    Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for replying back. The layer that I am using the puppet tool on is not a shape layer. It is a RGB cutout of a scuba diver, the puppet tool was used to make his legs move as me swims across the stage.

I’ll keep working on a solution to bring it to a smaller file size.

    Carl
