Low quality video for export
Hello, My buddy and I are working on a video in final cut pro but we are making an intro with just some cool text effects for the video. We are kinda new to AE so we are having trouble getting HQ exports. When we render and watch it the video looks good but when we bring it over to FCP the quality becomes crappy. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance

if the final render looks good in quicktime (or other viewer) or if brought back into ae, then the issue maybe more with the fcp import… i’m not too familiar with fcp, but others here are or you may want to post in the fcp forum…
a few things that you could clearify for us… first, are you ‘exporting’ (file>export) or rendering (composition>make movie or add to render queue)? you should be rendering, you will have much more control over the final output.
also, what codec are you rendering to? quicktime’s lossless animation would be a good way to go to maintain high quality prior to fcp import.
and, can you better describe ‘crappy’? does it seem to be bad compression artifacts, color or gamma shift, interlacing issues?
aside from those, there are somethings to make sure you maintain. make sure your after effects comp setting match the footage that you are using in fcp. ie, if the footage is 29.97 fps ntsc dv, then you want to use a comp that 29.97 fps, 720×480 and .9 pixel aspect ratio. if the render is interlaced and is getting scaled at all at import into fcp (like you render 720×486, but fcp is scaling it to 720×480), then your fields will get all mushed up and will not look awful on an interlaced device… so you’ll definately want to make sure your render matches your fcp project.
