simple (probably) align-question
Posted by Per Olsson on March 26, 2014 at 2:09 pmHi!
Im new to Cinema4D and have a question about a simmple thing to do but cant figure out how.
1) I have two Cone-objects which I want exactly side by side. How do I align the two Cone-objects?
2) On each cone-object there is bend-deformer applied. I want to centrate the bend-deformer so it is right on top (centrated) over each cone object.
How do I manage these two simple tasks?
thanks

2) in 15 just click the Fit To Parent button in the bend deformer (as long as it is where it should be as a child of the cone)

March 28, 2014 at 2:44 pmeasiest is probably the Arrange Tool – Tools/Arrange Objects/Arrange – Select your cones and then select the tool. You probably want the default Linear, just hit Apply and change the values in X, Y, Z to what you need and it will change interactively as long as you stay in the tool and don’t start a New Transform.
Though with only two cones just moving the cones by hand may be just as easy. -

March 31, 2014 at 6:58 pmokej. thanks but I cant get it to work to get them aligned.
1) I select the objects
2) Arrange Tool – Tools/Arrange Objects/Arrange
3) when i click apply I only can get one object to move rather then getting them side by side -

March 31, 2014 at 7:21 pmyou have to change the values (whichever value is the right one) in the position part of the Arrange Tools settings. Still, if you are only trying to align only two clones just moving them by hand (the Move Tool) or via coordinates is easier, the Arrange Tool is meant to make arrangement of more than two things simpler.

one last question. I find it a bit confusing that the
x-gridlines are not horisontal
y not vertical
and z going straight backwardsinstead the gridlines are as default in a different perspective.
How do I change the gridlines so I get them lined up as if I move the x-coordinate the object move right-left
y-coordinate the object move up-down
z-coordinate the object moves back-frontor are there any point having them as default? only seems a bit odd to me.
I know I can change it be alt-click and rotate but is there any way/command to get the x-gridlines horisontal?
thanks for you help!

April 1, 2014 at 2:03 pmI think you are looking for one of the side/top views instead of the usual perspective view. The Camera menu in the viewport has a number of views to choose from. F1, F2, F3, F4 and F5 are the default keys for jumping between the 4 default views (which are always there) and F5 shows all the views at once. You probably want to check out the Help/Views and Viewports section.

April 1, 2014 at 9:14 pmthanks, but no I want to have the perspective view. But I want to have the grid lined up so when I move my object to the left it moves straight to the left on the x and the same on the y
one way of doing this is to add a new camera, activate that camera and then set the coordinates on the camera to:
H 0
P -19.5 (for example or whatever perspective I want)
B 0than I get the lines as I want them.
I was thinking if there is another way of accomplish the same thing more straightforward. for me this setup makes more sense …

April 1, 2014 at 9:43 pmyes that works. but I also want to change the pivot point (think thats the name. the read and blue cross) so I get that centrated in my new camera view
sorry for all the question and thanks a lot for your help!
only how do I move the cross to my new camera view?
