Hi – I’m about to start modelling a radiator thermostatic valve – roughly comprised of a screw twisting inside two tubes. What I’d like to do is show a cutaway of the two tubes so that the screw can be seen inside. I’ve tried using a splined mask on a lathed nurbs but this cuts out the entire mid section of my pipe instead of just cutting the mid-front. If a boolean isn’t possible is there any other option other than manually deleting vertices off the tubes to ‘peel’ back the outer layers ?

    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

This might be worth checking out:

    https://www.plugins4cinema4d.com/rboole.html

It performs a boolean at render time and shouldn’t create the horrible topology that the standard C4D Boole object does.

It will only work with objects that have materials applied (it uses the materials to render the boolean).
