Point cache to keyframes?
Posted by Dean Chapman on May 27, 2012 at 4:53 amIt’s driving me nuts…
How can I take my point cache tag of an object and convert it to keyframes???
Thanks,
Dean

May 29, 2012 at 6:14 pmIt’s pretty straightforward:
* Drag your point-cached object into the Timeline;
* Select it in the timeline;
* Run the Functions>Bake Object command;
* In the dialogue, make sure that expressions and PLA are checked;
* Click OK.
Now your point cache information should be baked to PLA keyframes and you can delete the original object and any deformers.

May 30, 2012 at 5:01 pmI think you have to do each object separately for some reason.

May 30, 2012 at 8:19 pmI tried dragging just the “cromos” object in the timeline…..but the “bake objects” function is still grayed out.
I found this set of PLA plugins which worked great (converts a hierarchy of objects & animation into a single object with keyframes):
But, I’d still like to know why this standard built in “bake objects” thing is never selectable….
I’m sure it’s something simple that I’m missing….
Any suggestions?

May 30, 2012 at 9:20 pmCan you post a stripped down file where it isn’t working? I tried here and had no problem.

May 31, 2012 at 4:51 pmOkay, the problem seems to be that you have the timeline in motion mode instead of key mode (TL>View>Key Mode).
As it turns out, you can bake them all at once after you select the objects in the timeline.

Ok, I am now in Key Mode within the Timeline window. I drag my object over the timeline…I see a “+” symbol as I am hovering over the timeline. I drop it in. A folder named “Summary” appears to the left, underneath “Key Mode” (to the left of the timeline cursor). I go to “Functions”, scroll to “Bake Objects…”, but I cannot select, for it is still grayed out.
Did it work for you on that file i sent?
Thanks,
