I have a Type 1 font called Antique Olive that is used in a comp I created a few months ago. I created this project on WinXP and never had any problems with it.

Recently I’ve upgraded to Vista and ported all my fonts over. I have verified that the font is installed. Antique Olive is available in Word and even Sony Vegas.

However it doesn’t show up in AE. In fact I’m missing the font when I open my comp. I’ve tried copying it over to my (ancient) WinXP laptop and it works there, seems it’s specifically on Vista that there’s a problem. Working on my old laptop (pentium 3 with 256mb of ram) is not an option, needless to say.

Anybody run into this problem before or have any solutions?

Edit: Upon closer inspection, it appears NONE of my Type 1 fonts are available in AE. Now this is becoming a bigger problem than just this project.

The fact that Word and Vegas properly display the fonts leads me to believe it’s an Adobe issue, not a Vista one.

After considerable research, I’ve found that depending on the api call a program uses to read its font list, Type 1 fonts may or may not work under Vista. The actual problem is that adobe is using a legacy API call to build their font list in the CS3 apps that functions correctly under XP (and maybe even Vista x86, not sure), but not under Vista x64.

The only workaround was to drop some cash on a program called TransType Pro that let me batch convert all my Type 1 fonts to TrueType fonts.

    P.I.T.A. but it’s done now.
