  • New Intel Mac. $400 Knoll Light Factory update?

I actually won a copy of KLF2.0 here on the cow years ago. Cool. Used it lots, got addicted. Ok, so I’ve finally upgraded to a new Intel mac, and spent the last week finding out what doesn’t work anymore. Fair enough, mostly updates. However, Red Giant wants me to pay $99 to update my Knoll Light Factory. There’s nothing new to it, just some convenience items, presets, etc. Oh well, I know they’re trying to cover developer costs.

One problem… Just before hitting “buy” I realized I need a serial number to install. I don’t have it. In fact, my old copy happily installs without one at all. Did the Cow give me a non-upgradable “freebee” copy? Have I really been putting into production a dead-end app? Can someone hopefully tell me where to find that serial number so I can smirk at $99 instead of gag at $400?

    Thanks,
    Greg Neumayer

i think the box version of klf had no serial number… i guess they figured if you had the install cd, then you purchased it.

i think if you have klf2 installed, then the upgrade should install normally… but you may want to verify this with red giant, or maybe someone here can verify that.

    Update:
Red Giant has confirmed that my old version will successfully update ($99), since I have the original disk.

You can also make non intel plugins work on an intel mac by opening AE using Rosetta.
