    So I’ve been trying to adopt more of a C4D-AE workflow here at work and have been keeping mental notes of the last few months/jobs. I can count on one hand how many clients have approved the initial camera move and even fewer who haven’t “asked” (demanded) changes up to the ship date. With that said, I’m finding that creating camera moves in C4D, using comp tags and finishing in AE is becoming problematic. If I have to re-render tons of assets just to move a camera a few pixels on one scene, it doesn’t seem worth it. Thoughts?

    Next, color space & bit depth….

    I always try to get clients to sign off on camera moves using place holder objects and no textures *before* adding in all the bits that cause renders to drag.

    Hey Adam,

    Thanks for the response, glad someone wants to talk about best practices. We push very hard to get buy off on moves, but find quite often that many clients request pretty involved previz. In addition, cam moves seem to be a moving target all the way up to delivery. I was wondering if there were any c4d specific tricks or techniques that you and others have come up with over time through client experience. (tags, comp tricks, whatever) Thank you!

    Yes, sadly it isn’t alway (maybe not even usually) possible. To that end the best practice is probably two things:

    1. Try to push render-heavy stuff like motion blur, DOF, and other effects to post, and;

    2. Even if deadline pressure forces you to build out the full scene without a signoff on camera moves, try to hold off doing full renders until you get that signoff. You have many options (from best to worst):

    a) Send out OGL or software previews instead of full renders;
    b) Send out a stripped down render at 1/4 or 1/2 resolution (no AA, textures, lights, post effects);
    c) Send out a full resolution stripped down render.

    Adam,

    Great stuff as always, thank you! Wish there were more discussions on day to day stuff like this on the Cow, thanks again.

    Best,
    Craig
