Peeling flat letters from a textured plane
Hello everyone,
This seemed like such a simple thing to do, but is proving to be much more complex than I originally thought.
I have a textured background (think grunge) that I want to “peel away” a spline object from (the word “engage” as designed by one of my designers). It should look like the word is a stencil that’s being peeled up.
Before we get into how to do all that, let me first say, I know how to do ALL of what I just explained, except the texturing part.
The letters are just a spline merged from an Illustrator file, which I added a Bend deformer for the peel effect. The Plane is very simple, of course. To get the word to “disappear” from the plane, I made a boole using a copy of the text (extruded) to cut a hole in the plane. the plane looks right with the texture applied (UVW or Flat works usually, since it’s a flat graphic).
The letters that are peeling up, though – they are what are giving me problems. How do I make it so that the part of the textured plane that’s peeling up is textured appropriately on the letters? The letters need to have the EXACT texture of the part of the plane that’s peeling off, so that you don’t see them on the plane before they peel. “Frontal” mapping won’t work because it will not move with the plane.
Please help – and let me know if you need more clarification…
THANKS!
