  • Target camera – not centre of frame?

Posted by Tim West on April 18, 2011 at 8:50 am

    Hi,

I am building an animation which consists of several camera moves around 3D environments. In the final animation two thirds of the screen will be populated by other graphics (overlaid in After Effects).

I’d like to build a set up with a target camera, where the target positioned in the upper right quarter of the frame – so any moves are centred around this point (and not the actual centre of frame).

Can anyone advise me on how to achieve this? Expresso?

File scene attached as I know this sounds confusing!

    Thanks for your time,

Maybe I’m missing something, but can’t you just move the camera target to the desired location? Or in the alternative, drag the preferred target null into the target tag in place of the default null?

This is a tricky one to explain 🙂

I need the camera to target the null in the top right quarter of the screen – and for this null to remain in position with the camera also remaining in the position it is now .. if that makes any sense.

The spines attached to the camera indicate where graphic elements will go on screen (over the frame) – so the target point needs to be in the centre of the top right quarter of the frame.
I still need the full frame so the picture can sit beneath these elements as the animate on and off.

    Hope that makes some sense??

    Thanks for your time

    Tim
