Hello everyone, I am new to C4D, and I am creating a simple animation where 25 cubes with a reflective, 10% transparent material, fall to the plane below. This animation is 125 frames, yet each frame is averaging over 3 minutes to render. My scene is set to 1280 x 720. I have three Multipass objects on and I have already reduced Ray Depth and etc.

I do have Straight Alpha turned on. I am running on a 27″ iMac i7 with 8 GB of ram.

    Do these times sound normal?

If I post my .c4d could someone take a look and suggest better render settings?

    Thanks,

    Owen

I think thats how you post a file (?)

I turned GI off and the render went SOOO fast, but I can’t light a scene properly that looks like GI so I turned it on very little and added some lights, it looks okay, but if you could somehow make it better but still fast, it’d be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Using your unchanged settings with a core 2 duo processor, 2gb ram, v11.5, I’m rendering each frame on an average of 23 seconds.

I did have to replace your background texture with an image since yours wasn’t there. However your background isn’t seen by the camera anyway so that shouldn’t affect anything.

Even if I turn on the background and use a 7mb hdri in the back, it still averages 23s per frame.

I would do some other tests with a more simple scene. Sounds like you have some other issues, unrelated to this scene.

I got the render time down, thanks cory. Now I have a new problem regarding shadows.

My .tiff files aren’t being seen as an alpha channel in AE and I have Alpha and Straight Alpha checked. Is there anything that would make this happen?

I have a shadow pass going with an RGBA pass. In order to show the shadows on the desk I need to have the white desk plane seen by camera and not as a background composite, therefore the RGBA pass shows the white desk plane.

Any ideas to get that white desk plane out of there without rendering twice?

    Thanks.

Can you see alpha in photoshop? Determine if the problem is in AE or cinema and you’ll cut your troubleshooting in half.

I don’t understand your description of the white desk. If this is a separate issue from render time I recommend starting a new thread.

    Thanks Cory,

I got it figured out. I’m just using all Multi-passes, rather than the actual .tiff files.

    Thanks,

    Owen
