    hey,

so, i am trying to animate these multicolor bands onto the screen. i can do that with spline wrap, mospline, sweep nurbs, etc, but what i want to be able to do (and what’s throwing me) is 3 things:

1 – have a dynamically generated “head” of the bands, which i have been doing with effectors (scale and position on a plain and a random effector so the bands seems to form from smaller particles), that works but..

2- i also need the bands to have dynamics so i can just slightly push and pull them with wind/forces. i can get a band to interact with other primitives, but 2 bands just pass thru each other… which is the 3rd thing

3-and they can touch but should never intersect, i don’t need them to repel or bounce, just nudge up close without the intersections

Can you post your scene, or a screencap of the setup?

yeah, i gotta look at how best to post the file (i’m new at this…)

    thanks

    hey, adam,

    here’s the file:

this one is using mograph clones that intersect (which i’m trying to avoid). this was not a dynamic scene, just a test for the look and the effectors for the building of the head of the strokes.

but i am happy to create the bands with mosplines/hair/sweep nurbs, whatever works to get the effect. each band may be a slightly different profile, the key is they are close but don’t intersect.

    thanks again!

    also, i’m using c4d studio v12… thanks

Woo, that’s going to be tough to do. The objects are so closely packed it’s almost impossible to avoid intersection at startup, which doesn’t play well with dynamics. Then, if you can get everything spread out it’s very hard to transition from a dynamic state to a fixed state that’s perfectly ordered. Are you suuuuuure you need object collision? 😉

nah, honestly, what i need is somewhat controllable splines and an organic build. i’m toying with 2 systems, the splines are sweep nurbs built around splines from a tracer object and the “build” system would be a mograph cloner like the one in the scene i posted with effectors adjusting scale and position for the look of the bands forming from this air in front if the sweep nurbs.

not sure what that will look like, but the dynamics thing seemed to cause a lot of issues… so this might be better…

the sweep nurbs are simple enough to build, just tweaking the profile shape for the look i want.

if you have any suggestions for the A (build) system or the B (spline) system, i’d appreciate it!

    thanks, adam!

ps is there a way to find talented c4d people who i could pay to build the initial scene and hand it back for me to complete? not sure if that’s something thru the creative cow network, or other … thanks!
