    Hi everyone,

    Sorry to post another new question so soon (I’m still working on the Sun), but I got a little distracted with the Thinking Particle presets and have dabbled a bit in trying to recreate the 2009 Star Trek movie’s planet destruction.

    By combining the TP Object Fragmentation and Spherical Gravity, I’ve got a pretty good result, but the only issue is that sphere breaks along it’s polygon lines.

    Using the Xplode plugin, I can break up a sphere quite nicely, but then of course the pieces aren’t subject to the Spherical Gravity preset. Is there any way to combine the coolness and usefulness of Xplode with the Thinking Particle presets?

    Or is this only something that can be done manually in xpresso?

    Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but after some head scratching I’ve come up with this:

    * Run Xplode so it places the chunck in a Fracture object;

    * Turn off visibility for the Fracture object;

    * Select all the chunks and run axis center to center all their axes;

    * Create a Matrix object set to generate TP particles and set the count to the same number as the number of chunks you created;

    * Apply an inheritance effector to the Matrix object, referencing the Fracture object. That places the particles at the chunk locations;

    * Copy the chunks into a Cloner set to object mode referencing the Matrix object. Now you have the chunks set at the particle locations and they will follow the particles.

    Unfortunately you’re not going to get full object collision that way, so it might not suit your purposes.

    Hi Adam

    So grateful for your heading scratching and thank you very much for answering me. I’m slightly stuck at the Matrix Object stage:

    By default it’s opens as Mode: Grid array, and as a result it doesn’t have a single value for count. When I change Generate to thinking Particles, what should I set the Mode to?

    Sorry to bother you with this,

    Graham

    No problem, it’s good to exercise the head muscle from time to time. 😉 It doesn’t really matter what mode the Matrix object is in because the particles are going to be controlled by the inheritance effector. So in this case I’d set the mode to linear or radial, just because it’s easier to set an exact count that way.

    Hi Adam,

    This works brilliantly and watching the objects act like particles is kinda spooky.

    Thanks again
