  • New Camera… AVCHD file, how to import it?

I have purchased a new Canon HF10 camera and now know it records AVCHD format files or something like that. The file extension is .m2ts . Anybody know of a way of getting these files into after effects?

You will need to capture it with another application and export to more conventional format. I do not know Canon’s line but there is probably a user group especially for that model. You should haver received software of some kind for importing or, at the very least, a manual.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

its a consumer grade hd camcorder and there is only some software to play back the file :/. ive been doing some research and found that there are some solutions to the problem and have also found that vegas can import and export the footage.

It’s somewhat encouraging that this “consumer grade” AVCHD codec can be seen on the PC side of things (Vegas). But, I’m amazed at how prevalent this new format is and it’s preparation for blue ray technology, that nothing seems to be straightforward in terms of an IO for Final Cut?!

Any ideas? What am I missing here? How do I capture AVCHD, albeit maybe a consumer grade format to my Final Cut browser?
