I’m a basic C4D user, and I am working on a project, where I have several “animations” of 13 different words with animated backgrounds.

My first question is — is there a way to have several scenes within one project file? Right now, I am making a separate C4D file for each word.

And Second, is there a way to have the materials be global across all these projects. If I adjust the material in one, I need to go into all 13 other sequences and make the same adjustments. Is there a way to at least copy and paste materials so it replaces the materials? When I copy and paste it just adds them.

I am assuming my workflow is off — so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you should be using Xref objects (Objects>Scene>Xref). Xref objects allow you to import other scenes, complete with animation and materials. You can drag a material from the Xref M tab onto other objects in a scene, so if you edit the material in the original scene the change will be come through to the Xref scene.

So, you could have one scene with all your materials and import those through an Xref, and then have separate Xref objects for each word animation scene.

If they are small scenes I would just set them in the same project and place each scene in a NULL object. Then you can turn on and off each NULL. This way you can use the same texture across them all.

Yes — this is exactly what I was looking for — I’ll do some more reading about Xref objects.

    Thanks!
