    Hi there,

    I was wondering if anyone knows if I can overlay an animation in After Effects on a curved surface from Cinema 4D.

    I have been following the tutorial from Nick:

    https://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2009/10/how-to-export-your-scene-from-cinema-4d-to-after-effects/

    His billboard is flat and I was wondering if you could add an After Effects animation onto a curved surface. When you click on the solid option in the external composite tag it only comes into AE flat.

    I have tried a few different ways but it just doesnt seem to work.

    If anyone could help that would be great.

    For another option, is it possible to texture an object in cinema with a mov file for the same effect?

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

    Im actually doing something similar and have the same dilemma;

    Option 1
    • comp and add footage in c4d, works and allows footage to be curved over surfaces, in reflections etc but not as quick and versatile as in AE

    Option 2
    • export camera data etc to AE from C4D and retain more flexibility to edit/change footage etc but footage cant be used to interact with your 3D elements in quite the same way….

    In the end AE is not really a 3d application and so cant map over curved surfaces in the way you describe…

    If you just need a subtle warp or bend then you may be able to fake it using mesh warps or plug-ins but that could be a real headache…

    It’s all the those pesky details :p
