    Hello,

I have been working on this project and it requires mapping a video on a plane. However, the video I need to map on the surface refuses to show up. C4D does not want to recognize it and it renders black followed by the Texture Error message. It is a quick time file and I have tried re-rendering it as an avi file. Nothing is working. I found a different video that works perfectly in the scence…but it is not the video i want. The video that works is an .avi file that was previously rendered in C4D. I have a PC and C4D r11 64 bit. IT seems to be having trouble reading all of my quick time files. Is it a Codec issue? if so how the hell do i change it?

    Thanks,

    Joe

64 vs 32 maybe (that’s just a guess). Try exporting the movie to a series of tiffs or jpegs and use that instead… I’d have to see the .mov to make a guess otherwise.

    Hi Joseph,

I’ve done a little experimenting with this topic lately, and hopefully my findings will assist you. In order to bring a movie into Cinema4D, try the following:

    1 – Create a new material
2 – Disable the color and specular channels
3 – Enable the luminence channel
4 – Click on the “…” button for your luminence channel to add an image
5 – Navigate to the first image in your image sequence (assuming you have made an image sequence, which is what I recommend)
6 – Cinema will now ask if you want to make a copy of the image for your “tex” project folder; be sure to select “NO”
7 – Click on the thumbnail of your first frame in the luminence channel
8 – Within your Attributes window for your material, you will now see three tabs called “Basic,” “Shader,” and “Animation”
    9 – Click on “Animation”
10 – Set the frame rate for your image sequence in the “Movie Frame Rate” box
    11 – Click “Calculate”

This should work. Also, the steps above are for working in your luminence channel, but you can also do this with your color channel if you want your video to pick up light/shading information. The real trick with this method is to tell C4D to NOT make a duplicate of your first frame for your “tex” folder. This method has been working for me thus far, and I hope it comes in handy for you!

PS – keep in mind that frames at high resolution will bog down C4D. You may want to work with a low-res proxy of your image sequence, and switch to a full-res version for your render. Granted, it will take up more hard drive space, but it will save your sanity!

    Best,
