  • Animating jewelry stills.

So, I have a spot that I have to make solely out of jewelry stills. I’m going to separate the piece in the foreground from the background and do the whole 3D camera thing, but I want to add a little bit more realism.

I have a a lot of silver pieces. I’d like to simulate some kind of reflection in the piece as they move. As of now, my plan is to duplicate the jewelry layer and mask out the shadows. Then I’d basically animate a bright blur spot, if that makes sense, and then key frame some levels.

any other ideas or suggestions to help me out on this?

    Thanks.

fiddle with the transfer modes, go 32 bit linear for HDR light, It will look 100x more real., watch a reflection and specular tutorial, enhance texture with boosts of gold texturizing. and export straight alpha, or you’ll have nasty halo problems. Use hefty ammounts of time remapping and easy ease F9 to remove jerky animation.

What are you referring to when you mentioned,HDR light?

high dynamic range lighting is calculations that your eyes don’t see directly until after complex refraction and reflection and absorption of objects. 32 bit makes this possible. It’s floating point accurate. Don’t go 8 bit with metallic objects.

Thanks, that was a very useful suggestion.

I’m looking for some reflection and specular tutorials right now.
