  • Objects reacting to light?

Posted by Ryan Walker on July 28, 2009 at 4:56 am

    Hello all,

I just started using C4D not too long ago, but I had a quick question that Im sure is simple.
I have a row of spot lights set up in a line, and spaced apart from each other, much like how street lights would be if you were driving down the road. Coming down the middle, and I have an object starting from the back, and flies forward to the front underneath all of the lights.

The problem is that my object doesnt react to any of lights above it. Instead of getting brighter and darker around each light, it is consistently bright throughout the whole animation. What am I missing? Is there a tag that I need or dont have set correctly?

Thank for any help you can offer for a beginner.

do you have a texture (material) on the object with Luminance enabled? – that would make it constantly illuminated

or – is the object outside the the falloff distance of the lights (assuming you’ve set one)?

otherwise can you post the scene?

    Hey Brian,

I do believe that I have the luminance on. I wont be back to my computer at home until this evening but that is the first thing I will check. If that doesnt work, I will post my scene to see what the problem is.

    Thanks for the quick response!

Randy J had a response to another thread which may have been meant for this one (applies here anyway) – if all your lights are omni lights and they don’t have Falloff you would get only slow changes as the object moves through the line of lights (since all the lights reach to infinite distance, you only see the changes as the object get nearer to the camera and more of the lights are now behind it so the near face gets darker)

Anyway, if you want “the object moves through lights” thing either you need Spotlights (with or without Falloff) or Omni’s with a Falloff applied
