  Champagne foil problems

  Hi,

  I have modeled a champagne bottle and cork and want to now wrap foil around it.

  I have tried applying a cloth tag to a plane and a collider tag to the bottle but I just don’t seem to beable to get the cloth to suck into all the detail like real foil would.

  I have modelled a wire clasp that goes around the bottle neck so it would be great if foil fitted tightly around this.

  Any cloth tips to achieve tight fitting tinfoil would be greatly received.

  First, the cloth mesh will have to be dense enough so that it can conform to the underlying objects. Second, set the Forces>Gravity parameter to 0 and use the Tag>Size parameter with a negative value to do the shrinkwrap-like effect on the foil.

  Thanks Adam,

  I have put what you said into practice but I am still having a few problems.

  Even though the bottle top has a “constraint tag” applied, the cloth still seems to be going through it? How do I prevent this?

  Also how do you stop the movement in the cloth as it seems to be continually strink wrapping around the bottle, so the cloth slides up the object.

  Here is my project file to see the above problems.

  Cloth is really sensitive in how it works so it will take some playing around to get the desired result. You are going to want as uniform sized polygons as posable so maybe (I have not tried) a cube would get better results than a cylinder.

  Like adam mentioned you need enough polygons to get the shape but I think you went a little overboard for now, if you need more add them later.

  You need to enable Self collision. Also the Point Edge and Polygon collision sizes should be adjusted to fit your mesh. Mesure the distance between points to get this number.

  Flexion is how much you mesh returns to its original shape so you don’t need so much of it.
  Rubber is how much it deforms and stays deformed.
  Stiffness can be set higher than 100% and foil will need a high number there.
  And try using dress mode since your not animating this. Use a different set up for the ripping of the foil.

  Otherwise you can box model it and get a good texture with displacement.
