    Hello all,

I have a scene where I want some objects to be lit with a light source, and others to not be lit. I have figured out how to “exclude” objects from the light source in the tag of the light, however now those objects excluded are totally dark and not visible (i know, duh, because they aren’t being lit!)

What I would like to do is keep the default light on for these object not receiving illumination from the light source. It turn, I would imagine I would need to exclude the default light from the objects receiving illumination from the light.

    ??????

    Thanks!

The default light is only active if there are no other light sources in the scene. You’ll have to create separate lights to illuminate the objects that aren’t lit by the other lights.

    bah humbug.

Any advice for creating a similar lighting setup to the default light? I have spheres flying around over great distances (planets). Is using global illumination something that might work?

I believe the default lights are just omnis on either side of the camera. I would set two wide-spaced omnis up that way and then make them children of the camera.

yep…that worked just great! this seems like a valuable technique when one is happy with the default lighting, but could use a little more control. thanks!
