  Is it possible to move a layer around the screen and change its ANCHOR POINT instead of POSITION?

  Hi there

  Basically I have a set of position keyframes for a layer, but Id like to change its Anchor Point a few times and want to be able to move the layer around and have it affect the anchor point not the position. Obviously I can change it manually changing the co-ordinates but well…can anyone help? Is this possible?

  You can keyframe the Anchor Point, it’s under Transformations along with Position, Size, Opacity, etc. Is that what you mean?

  Select the Pan behind tool (the tool that lets you adjust the anchor point) and then while holding down ALT move the Anchor Point and it will move the layer by affecting the anchor point in the comp window.

  I think this is what your asking.

  Hi,

  Thats pretty cool, thanks for your help, but how come it kind of inverts the movement of the solid with the direction where you place the anchor point? Like if you move the anchor point left, the solid will go right. Gets a bit confusing thats all….

  Hey Dan,

  position & anchorpoint are each others inverse (if the scale is 100%)
  It’s pretty abstract, but when you think about it it makes sense.

  If the solid goes the same direction, then it will be the same as moving the postion, right?
  Basically, anchor point is trying to center inself by offsetting the solid. If you start
  getting in to the 3d mode in AE, you will know why anchor points are important.
