  • Getting a .png with an alpha channel, applied in Cinema 4D as texture to a simple plane object, to cast a shadow

    Hi all,

I am trying to figure out the following in Cinema 4D:

If I apply an image w/ alpha channel to a simple plane object like John Dickinson did here with Iron Man

Is it possible to get that Iron Man cut out to cast a shadow on other objects in the scene, by shining a light on it?

I’ve tried to do that in my scene, but none of the cut outs cast shadows. Of course, this is very easy to do in after effects. But I’m building a 3D background world, with 2d animated characters moving around in it. So that’s why I want to be able to get those 2d character cutouts, applied to simple plane objects as textures with an alpha channel, to cast their shadows on background objects.

were shadows turned on in the lights you were shining on the cutout?
