    Hi All — Wasn’t sure how to phrase the subject but here is my question. NOTE: I’m fairly familiar with C4D and the ins and outs as well as the basics.

    I have a 6 x 4 grid of cloned cubes using the Mograph Cloner object. I applied a RANDOM effector to it so that I could start this grid of clones in a random mess if you will. (spread out along the x axis).

    I then animated the randomness from the “mess” to the final shape of a nice 6×4 grid of clones. YES! I was happy I got that far.

    What I want to add to this sequence is the “randomness” as to WHEN the clones start to go from RANDOM to my final shape. They all start and essentially stop at the same time. I was hoping someone could provide some insight as to how I get the clones to start at different timings from my random “mess” to my final shape.

    I tried figuring out the DELAY effector but did not get very far.

    So, in a nutshell, random clones spread out crazily, then the clones start to make their move (at different time intervals, or even one after the other) into my final shape.

    This is a little complicated, but here’s what I would do:

    * Create a matrix object and apply a random effector to it affecting position;

    * Create a cloner with the same settings as the matrix effector (but without the aforementioned random effector applied);

    * Create a random effector with no parameters checked and “affect weight” set to 100%, and apply it to the cloner;

    * Create an inheritance effector referencing the matrix object and apply it to the cloner (check the “morph motion” box);

    * In the inheritance effector’s falloff tab, set the weight to 0%;

    So that’s the basic setup. By animating the inheritance effector’s strength, you will move the clones from the randomized position to the grid position.

    The random effector affecting the cloner randomizes the weight of the of the inheritance effector; IOW, it determines how much strength the inheritance effector will have on the various clones.

    About half way through the animation, I would animate the weight of the inheritance effector (falloff tab) from 0% to 100% at the end of the animation. That will ensure that you end up with a perfect grid at the end.

    Thanks much, may be too complex of a concept for me to wrap my brain around but I’ll try to follow your directions step by step and see if I can achieve the result. Any chance you could post a dummy project? If that is not appropriate, thanks for the step by step walk thru.

    Thanks much for this. I think the build is correct but still (of course) not understanding where to set keyframes/achieve the effect where ALL CLONES start and stop at once. Is it in “falloff”?

    Sorry, this is not my forte but totally think I’m close to getting it. I need clones to start forming the next shape less uniformly. I’ll keep looking at your project to find the appropriate adjustment.
