I am new to Cinema 4d. I am making a space tunnel scene and I want to animate the camera going through it. There are a lot of twists and turns. I want the camera to be able to rotate freely on all axis so that it can bank and roll on turns and climbs. I have tried different spline tutorials but it locks the rotation parameters in.

I want something that looks like a dynamic plane chase or roller coaster ride. I have been animating every thing using keyframes, but the results are far from smooth. It would be great if I could have the camera follow a path and then keyframe where the camera points separately. It would be like a camera in a car, the camera goes where the car goes, but the camera can point straight in the direction its traveling, but then it could pan out to the side. Just trying to be as clear as possible.

If anyone has any tips I would much appreciate them. Also, if anyone know of any general camera animating tutorials that would be great as well.

There are a few ways to do this. I like using a camera target animated on along a seperate spline.

You could also place the camera in a null and use the align to spline tag on the null instead of the camera.

Thanks guys, could you go into more detail. I think I set it up right, but when I try to view through the camera, it gives a non perspective right view or top view. What I am doing wrong?

While looking through the camera go to the drop down menu in the top left corner of the view port and make sure your on perspective.

As for more detail. Adams solution is far simpler than mine. Place the Align to spline on a Null Object and animate that. Then you can animate the camera’s attributes to your liking because the Align to Spline wont effect it directly like before.

The solution I mentioned has a few more steps.
Leave your Align To spline tag on the camera and animate it at the speed you want.
Then copy your spline and Place another align to spline tag on a NULL that points to the new spline.
Then you Put a Target tag on the camera that points to the NULL object. Now you can move the points around on the New spline to show the camera what to look at. (This works similar to rail spline).
