  • Use Collider tags or model?

Posted by Mike Gordon on April 2, 2009 at 4:53 pm

Im trying to create this sphere that will “buldge” from the atom array I placed it in. Is there a way to do this using Collider tags or some edge detection to achieve this or will i have to model this.

I just want a natural look and have the sphere buldge around the arms of the atom array

Not really sure what you’re going for from the description. If you want to have the atom array geometry plus the origninal geometry, just copy the original sphere.

I think he’s thinking of a ‘balloon inside a cage’ sort of thing, bulging out between the bars.

Cloth would be the way if there was a way to apply a Radial wind or Radial negative gravity but there isn’t that I know of. Dynamics has the radial forces to use but the cloth there is too finicky for that. Unless some other solution is out there it’s likely a modeling thing.

@ Brian Jones— thats exactly what I am trying to do….I’ll have to try making it a cloth object…I figure there has to be a way as you can do particle simulations where the mesh is distorted based on its collision with an object

again if anyone knows how to make it so that the sphere bulges around the atom aray arms instead of intersects it using collision/cloth dynamic instead of modeling let me know!
