    Hello!

I’m very new to cinema 4D and I’m still finding my way around.

I’ve created a sphere and added a material to it so it now shows up as blue.

I’d like to add a logo to this sphere but so that the background of the sphere still shows.

When I add the logo to a new material in the colour and alpha channel, I can add this to the sphere but the blue background disappears.

Also, once the logo is added (even though the background isn’t showing just yet!), is there a way I can alter the size of how it appears, as it gets slightly distorted but I’m not sure how to adjust this.

Any tips on how to get around these problems would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,
    D 🙂

If you render a preview you should see that the the bkg is still there.
Also your distortion can be caused by the projection method. If you select the material tag you can see in the attribute manager sever options, default is UV but you select cubic or flat….
    Here is a basics tutorial:

Thank you! That’s helped a lot. I’ve been playing with the settings for adjusting the size of the logo and can get a few logos tiled into the sphere, some nice effects to try!

Still not having much luck with the background, it’s still not showing, but just got to keep practising I think!

    Thanks again for your help!

You said you added the logo to the color and the alpha channels, did you add a color or b/w image to the alpha channel?

I’ll run through how I’ve created it from scratch, as you may be able to spot where I’m going wrong…

I created a sphere and made it editable, created a new material making the colour blue then I’ve tried several things…

In the material editor, I added the logo using the ‘texture’ tab in the colour tab – this then shows the white background behind the logo from the PSD photoshop file (the logo is on a separate layer in photoshop).

So then I selected the alpha tab and loaded the same image into the texture tab – this keeps the white background but makes the sphere appear transparent, so I can see the other side of the sphere through the logo and the blue disappears, but the material editor shows it as blue.

So I tried adding the logo into the same tabs as above but using an illustrator 8 file instead – this just shows up black!

I’m sure there is a really simple solution and I’ve probably made a beginners mistake somewhere along the lines!!

Is it just not in the view port or not rendering?

I am not sure what s going on so I posted a file that has an example here:

    Cracked it!!

Realised what I was doing wrong, I was adding the logo to the blue material instead of keeping the blue material seperate and adding the logo on top!

So I needed 2 materials, one standard blue, one with the logo on.

But this still wasn’t showing the blue until I tried changing the display to show the materials as stacked (a tip I picked up from the tutorial link you sent me earlier) – it worked!!

    Thanks all for your help!
