  • Polygon Textured with Alpha Becomes Visible When Passed Over Glass

Hey Guys – This is my first post on CGSociety! I’m pretty new to Cinema 4D and I’ve been working on animating a bird. To create the feathers, I textured a polygon with an embedded alpha. Everything looks great until the bird passes in front of glass. Then the transparent area of the polygon becomes partially visible. I’ve narrowed the problem down to the reflection setting in the glass texture. When I turn reflections off… the alpha in the feather works fine, but when I turn the reflections on the problems ensue. I need to keep reflections on, and I cannot figure out what to do! Thanks for any input!

    Here’s a link to a screen shot:

It’s kinda hard to make out with all the shattered glass, but look at the wing tip. There’s a dark grey box around the feathers there.

What are your Reflection Depth and Ray Depth set to in Render Settings? Maybe Ray Depth is too low?
