  • NET Render Server “Server type is not C4DNet” – HELP?!

Posted by Geoff Thomson on October 30, 2008 at 11:47 pm

    Hi.

I’ve been running NET Render for ages without major issues – generally it works great.

Last night the NET Render Server would not even start up… the clients came up with a message saying:
“Connection to server lost at (with time of error)” and “Server type is not C4DNet”

    What the…!?
NET Render Server just hangs on startup when the window opens – no welcome message or anything.

I saved the job like usual into the correct folder with textures and everything.

It seems like it’s specific to this project, because i tried another test project and it started up and rendered fine (had to delete the old project from the working folder though or it would just hang again)
The only thing i can think of that might be different from usual is my use of ‘Xpresso’ tags and ‘Clusters’… but i deleted these objects to test it and it still won’t run.

This has never happened to me before and i REALLY need it to get this job rendered over the weekend… If anyone has had an experience like this, 5 words would be greatly appreciated… PLEASE HELP?

    Ta.
    Thommo

ps. my sig not working it seems – i’m on a Mac G5 Dual 2.7Ghz running OSX 10.4.11 with a dozen clients of the same make-up

Further info – it seems it may be related to ‘user data’ on a control object driving the Xpresso tags… which drives a pretty serious set of moves…
    #(@&%!
Does anyone know of any documentation relating to using Xpresso in a production environment? It’s no good to me if i can’t use it to do real WORK.
(apologies for negativity – 8 years a C4D user and nearly had enough)

No idea myself, maybe it’s a good time to email Support, they’re usually pretty quick to respond.

Hi Brian… Thanks for you response… Have you had issues with ‘Clusters’ not rendering using NET Render?

I think that it’s the point clusters that are stuffing me up… (I removed ALL Xpresso tags and the server ran at least, but now it’s getting client errors)
I’ve tried using the ‘Point Cache’ tag to remove the use of clusters, but the only client that does anything instead of ‘waiting’ is the client i’m running on the same machine as the server.
    Any ideas?

… have done some test renders using key factors i thought may have been causing trouble with my scene file.
‘Clusters’ AND ‘Xpresso’ controllers like i used work just fine… Not sure what’s going on…
    Think i need beer!

Did you install any plugins recently? I had the same problem occur when I tried to install DPIT EFFEX. I deleted the file temporarily until I can install plugin on all machines.

But yes, if you did install plugins, you must install on server and client folders.
