Bouncing Objects on Pillows
Posted by Jobert Monteras on July 20, 2008 at 7:56 amHi! I’m trying to work with dynamics I am able create soft objects that bounces on hard surfaces like a jelly ball and a wooden floor, bur I’m having a problem doing it vice-versa I want to drop objects like a ball or any other simple to polygon to a cushion that I made I tried putting a rigid body tag on a polygon and a softbody tag on another so that when i drop that polygon the other would somehow deform when it collides with the other one. Does anybody know how to do this?

July 20, 2008 at 10:55 amI tried using cloth but i don’t seem to be able to make it work, what happens is that when the object falls on the plane it deforms correctly but it also goes all the way down with the object and out of the screen it tried increasing the stiffness to 100 percent but it did not fix it.

July 20, 2008 at 12:44 pmYou will need a collider object for a floor to prevent going off screen.
You can put stiffness over 100% and flexion works like a stiffness too…(it trys to return the polys to the original shape)… I can make an example file when i get back to work on monday if you cant get it…
There is an amazing Cloth tutorial on CMVFX.com its 50 dollers but amazing./Randy

July 21, 2008 at 9:27 amHere are couple files you can see the settings in…they are very simple and not all that different from each other. Done in version 10.5.
A couple other things that might help:
-You cannot modify the collider object after you have the cloth tag applyed…delete the collider Tag and make your changes then re apply it.
-Two objects with Cloth tags will not collide with each other…no you cannot have a collider and cloth tag on the same object….connect the two objects and turn on self collision in the cloth tag.
-There are a couple tutorials on C4D cafe for cloth…and one or two on c4dportal too.
-Remotion makes a good dynamics plug in that works well.https://www.randyarchy.com/Cloth.zip
Hope this helps,

July 11, 2009 at 4:04 pmRandy – Thanks for the files. I am having major issues… Trying to get 2 spheres to act like balloons… where they would bounce against one another.
I called maxon and told them I couldn’t get any of the dynamics settings to work. They suggested cloth but then sent me a quicktime that they created using the hair module (which I don’t have nor want to use).
I am confused on the “connect” portion of what you were talking about. Nothing I am trying is working.
Any suggestions?
The balloons I am trying to model can be found here: https://www.couchballoons.com
As you can see, I will eventually have to make a lot of them. Yet, I can’t even get two of them to work. Most of the time, the sphere(s) I am using collapse and break apart when they hit a collider. I have checked all of your settings but can’t seem to find what I am doing wrong.
Thanks!
