  • export plane from CD4 to AE or Shake

Posted by Fabio Zenteno on February 13, 2008 at 11:17 pm

The export of camera and lights go Ok to AE.

However I I need to export a few planes that are located in different locations in the environment (some of them have translation and rotation animation) as the camera fly’s trough the environment.

Is there a way to export a marker, plane or anything from Cinema4D to AE or Shake? I need to replace the planes with various AE compositings..

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Basically what you do is snap a null to a corner of your plane, add an external compositing tag to the null, and then make sure you check the 3D data box when you save your *.aec file. Note the size of the plane in Cinema.

That will bring in the null with PSR animation. Now in AE, bring in your footage with the same dimensions as your Cinema plane. Select the plane/null in the Cinema comp and alt-drag your footage onto it to replace it. Bingo! Your footage layer should be perfectly aligned and keyed to follow the animation.

Of course you’ll also probably need an object buffer pass to isolate your plane/footage.

Thanks for the fast reply, the null gets exported, however it will not retain the position, rotation even scale relative to the camera. In other words animation gets exported, but position based on distance and rotation will have no effect on null. Any ideas why not?

No idea, assuming you gave the null an external compositing tag and checked the “3D Data” box before you saved out the .aec file.
