    Hi,
    I’ve created a snow globe using the Volume Emitter and Object collision presets in TP’s. It looks great, but I have to have this object move along with a tracked scene (boujou). When I put the entire scene in a null, and move the system, the particles all go haywire. They seem to move into a point when the collision object (glass) moves past them. Is there a way to have the particles maintain their position in relation to the moving scene?

    pass the particles to a PMotionInheritance node. Here’s a very simple example

    Hi Brian,
    This definitely gets the particles moving with the moving object. Here’s the problem. I have a collision object (sphere acting as the snow globe), so the objects don’t go outside my globe. when I add this collision object, the particles are sticking to (in your example) the left side of the sphere, as the null moves left to right. If I take the null object out of the equation leaving just the collision object, the particles continue to bounce as expected, once i reintroduce the move they stick to the left? Any idea?

    That’s what I’m getting. The Particles are sticking to the left hand side as the sphere moves left to right.

    Brian,
    I see what you have going, and I should be able to make this work. Theoretically it’s a bit confusing. It seems that you are passing the emmited particles to the group pre, which is passed to MI, and deflector nodes, and then to a new group. It seems as though the particle is passed to the post group right at the point of the first deflection. At that point, the rest of the motion is controlled in group post. Why are the second set of nodes needed. Shouldn’t the first MI and deflector maintain throughout? Maybe you could explain a bit why the second set is needed. In any case, thank you for you time and help, it’s been great.

    I haven’t been playing with TP for a while so I was just going by feel. The particles don’t move right without MI, the first bounce is wrong without Velocity Inheritance in the Deflector but they pick up speed with each bounce thereafter so there must be too much energy being picked up. So I transfer them into a new group (pre-first collision to post – first collision) and took out some energy, I tried various settings of MI and VI but I thought 50/100 looked most natural, strictly a by eye thing. Of course with you doing a snow globe you may be taking enough energy out to make slow ‘snow’ in water that you only have to tweak the Energy/Friction/Bounce settings and may not need a new group at all. That’s just a guess, some experimentation will be needed.
