  • Won’t import from C4D to AE CS3?

Posted by Rob Ho on November 19, 2007 at 5:14 pm

I’ve already posted a thread in AE, but I’m hoping someone here can help me too as this is bugging me and I can’t figure it out.

I’m trying to import a 3D object from Cinema 4D R10.1 into AE CS3. I downloaded the latest plugin(CAD.plugin) from Maxon which supposed to work for the latest AE. I placed the plugin into the AE plug-ins folders.

So I enter my render settings in C4D and do a render and I get both the aec and mov files.

Now when I go into my AE and try to import the aec file, nothing happens. I’ve read few places with similar problem and most of the times is a matter updating the latest plugin, but I’ve already done this here so I still have no idea what the problem is. Am I missing something I don’t know? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Cinema can’t export 3D objects to AE — just 3d layers, lights, cameras, and 3D data (position/rotation).

But I can’t even do that. Now I’m not sure if I have my settings correct.

probably just drag the aep file from the finder into your project. (instead of going thru the Import dialog box).

Or maybe turn off the “relative” check box..? I’ve always found the C4D to AE import to be janky, and annoying, but be persistant and you should get it.
I think Maxon let some rookie program that function of the app.
