Hey guys- I have a deadline in a couple days on this projecct. This is my first paid C4D project and I am having some trouble with the lighting when I render. I get this strane flickering with the light playing off of the plastic texture. Any ideas?

I’m using global illumination, so i can only assume that it has something to do with the settings there, but at 2 hours to render 2 seconds, I don’t have a whole lot of time to experiment. here’s the settings i’m working with.

    strength: 100%
    accuracy: 70%
    prepass size: 1/1
    difuse depth: 5
    stochastic samples: 500
    min res: 90
    max res: 100

    please help!
    Thanks! you guys rock!

You have a couple of options. First, you can try upping the GI settings. I would definitely reduce the diffuse depth from 5 down to 2 or 1, which will make up for a lot of lost time. I’d also use a wider range between the Min and Max settings — at least a 1:5 ratio. Then I would increase the quality setting substantially, to somewhere 90-100%.

You could also use stochastic mode, which is slow but flicker free.

Or, you could copy the “news network” extrude, convert it to real geometry, swap out the converted object after the extrude animation is done, and bake the illumination on the converted geometry.

And of course you could avoid GI altogether.
