Bump Map
I’m fairly new to Cinema. I’m running V9 on PowerMac G5 systems. I’ve been a Lightwave Head for… Well since it came out in what? 1990? So it’s a little hard for me to wrap my head around a new program.
Anyway… I had a trick of adding a bump map with a gradient to make the flat faces of a logo reflect as if the front face had a slight curve. My attempts to ad a gradient bump map to my objects in Cinema didn’t do what I had hoped. Everything still looked flat. I’ve done a couple of projects in Cinema and I’m very impressed with it. I’m just to old to make a clean change from one program to another anymore. Any insight to what I’m doing wrong?

If your logo is formed by extruding a spline(s), you’ll probably want to apply cubic mapping rather than the default UVW, and then you’ll probably have to play with the UV scale (texture axis tool) to get the best results. You might also want to restrict it to the front/back faces by typing C1 and C2 (respectively) into the texture tags’ “Selection” boxes.
Probably makes sense to put the gradient in the color or luminance channel while you experiment with placement so you can get a better idea of what’s going on.
