    Hi Everyone,

Im hoping you can help me here. I have been using Cinema4d for a few years now but only for rendering text into 3D. I decided to up my game a little and move into character modelling.
I have come across numerous character modelling tutroials, ranging from difficult to extremely difficult.

I have plenty of simple illustrated humanoid drawings, front and side profiles and I would like to bring them to life. I have difficulty getting the basic shape created from scratch in C4D using just my eyes to reference the image. I have tried extruding from
a polygon cube to no luck either.

Is there a way i can bring the front and side profile image of my character into C4D and use the images to trace points from which i can go on to create polygons from.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Gus

Assign the images as background images to your viewports. Since you are in R10, you could also apply them to dedicated polygons using materials, then put them on a separate layer. Lock the layer. The references will show up correctly, but not be editable so you can’t accidently select them.

    Thanks Mylenium

I understand the polygon approach, but how can i determine if the polygon is to the exact scale as my image? e.g. Is a 72dpi image thats w150px X h500px equivilant to a polygon box thats X-150m by Y-500m?

    Thanks again

No. Things don’t work that way. C4D has no concept of dpi. The common approach is simply to create a dummy cube that encompasses your model and resize all bg images/ textures so that they fit the dimensions of the individual faces. If you do everything correctly, you get correct results.
