Does the bend deformer have any sort of collision detection? I notice that i can take a plane object and roll it into a tube, but its surface collides with itself. Is there a way to roll a plane object (using the bend deformer – or not) into a tube-like configuration that would replicate the way you would roll up a piece of fabric or paper in the real world (so that it is essentially wrapping over itself in a spiral fashion)?

    Thanks y’all…

No. Wrong technique. Find yourself a Spline Wrap deformer (contained in MoGraph, DiTools and available as a standalone from Renato Tarabella) and use a Helix spline with it.

the helix/spline wrap worked great. My idea was to make it look like a falling roll of cloth which unfurls on its way down. I added the clothide tag and applied wind forces to blow it from one direction to another. The plane will react to the wind, but it wants to stay locked to the helix (normally, if you apply a cloth tag to a plane and add wind, it will blow the plane/cloth in any direction with any amount of strength) and not move. Is there a way to get the wind to do this?

    Thanks
