I’m working on animating some whales to show their foraging behavior. The scientists I’m working with have data files taken from an electronic tag placed on the whale, that contains xyz position data as well as heading, pitch and roll data. I want to try to animate the whale using this data file to drive the animation, so that the whale will follow the path indicated by the xyz position data, and also use the hpb data for rotation and heading. Can this be done, and if so, how? Anyone done this sort of thing before? Should the two types of data be in one file, or in two separate files? What format should they give it to me in in order to import into Cinema? How do I import the data files? Also, is this something that would be easily done with Xpresso?

    Questions, questions, questions!

I’d appreciate any insight anyone has on this sort of thing. I need to complete the animation before October 13, so I want to get going right away on it.

    thanks,
    Jack

Cinema has some kind of ASCI import that I think would solve at least part of the problem, but I’m afraid I don’t know the first thing about it.
