lose ease info with new position
after i have adjusted the easing of an object using custom keyframe handles in the Fcurve manager if i manually move the object to a new location and record/update the new position by hitting the red record button i lose the ease that i have setup and it reverts to the default keyframe easing on the new position. how do you update the new object position without losing the ease that you set up.

Sounds like you’d be better off assigning the object a time curve and doing the ease there rather than doing it on the position track.

thanks heaps adam. that’s great. silly me, coming from after effects i didn’t realize you could assign a time curve totally separate from the ease on keyframes like that. with your suggestion i looked time track up and found it on page 860 of the manual and figured it out. really nice feature i didn’t know about and will use from now on. just wondering, aside from that eye opener, if you weren’t using a time track, is there a way to update/record a postion keyframe without losing an ease that you have already set up. thanks again.

You can move an object’s position by clicking on the keyframe “dot” (which turns magenta) on the motion path and dragging it to the desired position. Sometimes this is a bit tricky. To select that particular keyframe, you can turn off the objects visibility temporarily or scrub the timeline to a point where the oject is not parked on top the keyframe. Anyway, by adjusting the keyframe in the motion path, there is no need to “set” the keyfame. I hope this makes sense.

thanks bear, that made sense and was one of the workarounds i was using. it still seems like slightly weird default behaviour to lose the ease when you update/record a new position at a keyframe. i’m not sure when that default behaviour is actually useful, it would seem a more useful default behaviour that when you move the object to the new position it didn’t reset the whole path but would keep and adjust the curve at the new position. anyway now i understand how it works and will make use of adam’s time track suggestion.

Unfortunately I don’t know any way to keep the same ease if you record a new KF.
