I do not have any professional experience in using have either of Cinema 4D, 3D Max, LightWave, or Maya. I recently acquired Cinema 4D Ver9 and start to experiment. As you all know it is adictive.

My main interest is in creating good quality, scientificly accurate visualisation of a complex robotic system. I have detailed 3D models of the robot in Solid Works. This robot has 8 axis of freedom. I collected extensive set of data correspondig to rotation angels of each joints and also 3D position of the special actuators attached to the robot. Angels and displacements are collected as a function of time (60Hz) and saved into a lengtly text file.

    My questions are
[1] Which one of the following software allows me to create keyframes from an external data file to make a realistic rendering of the robot?
    i. Cinema 4D
    ii. 3D Max
    iii. LightWave
    iv. Maya
    v. Anything else?

[2] Is there an comparison table showing indivudual strength and weakness of the above mentioned software packages.

    Regards

    Roberto Hawkowski

Before totaly hook my self to Cinema 4D, I would like to ask you if you know any site/URL which compares Cinema 4D, 3D Max, LightWave, Maya, (and anything else?).

CINEMA has an ASCII importer that allows you to import CSV text files to be used as animation tracks for animation. It shouldn’t be to hard to get this to work with CINEMA.

Download the free demos of each and spend a few days with them.
