    I have three filleted cubes stacked in alittle pyramid like bricks. I have an omni light illuminating them from top left. Why does each brick have a similar light pattern, i.e. is light at top left and grads to dark at bottom right? I want the light to affect them as a unit i.e. the highlight is on the top brick and it falls off to the bottom of the bottom bricks if you know what I mean!

    I don’t think you can avoid that with a point source light. You want a light with more area, maybe an area light, distant light or parallel light?

    Not getting a result with any kind of light! Why???!!! Why doesn’t the light fall off naturally across the cubes? The top left of each cube is more illuminated than the bottom right. Is this a fault in C4D? It’s not how things happen in reality. Is there a workaround or fix?

    Adjusting the phong tag to an low angle has helped a lot. Found this tip in the archives.

    Did you set the light falloff? They default to no falloff. If you haven’t, I would set the falloff to ‘on’ and turn on shadows for that light as well then go from there.

    I got a solution on the 3D attack forums. It’s caused by the filleting on the cubes mucking up the phong shading. I needed to select the front face of the cubes and do a small inner extrude, which solves the problem nicely.

    Cool, thanks for reporting the real problem. I found you could also fix it without the inner extrude by just reducing the Phong Angle in the Phong tag. It corrects itself at 8 degrees in my tests so anything below that works.

    I ran across this same problem a couple of months ago on a project of mine, and it was driving me batty! I never would have thought of tweaking the Phong angle on my own…
